The Light of Reason and the power of faith

The religious concept of Faith as a special grace, granted by God to believers of a certain religion, belongs to the past. This concept amounts to a profoundly unjust interpretation of Divine Justice. Faith is a gift, no doubt, but God's gift is always universal, it is never processed in the narrow measure of men. God is the Creator and we are his creatures. This means that God is the Father and we are His children. How could the Supreme Father, who is the source of all love, of all mercy, grant only to some of His children the fundamental gift of Faith, without which man could not rise to Him?
The concept of Faith, established by the Spiritism, puts the problem in clear and precise terms. Faith, as a natural gift, is present in the heart of all human creatures. Like love, which we all carry in germ within us, Faith needs to germinate in our hearts and be cultivated by us in the light of Reason. Thus, Faith is given to us as a seed, but we have to cultivate and develop it. In that sense, Faith becomes a conquest that we have to make in life. Don't all our faculties also have to be cultivated? Faith is a faculty of the soul, of the spirit, and it is up to us to develop it in ourselves.
Faith and Reason are connected like the Sun and the Earth. Reason is the spiritual sun which illumines our understanding, driving away the darkness and cold of ignorance and superstition, to give us the light of understanding and the warmth of life. A man without faith is dead in himself, he is his own grave. But it is enough for him to kindle the light of reason to free himself from death and the grave, to rise again like Lazarus at the voice of the Messiah.
The materialist, the atheist, the man of no faith, really trusts in himself, has faith in his own strength. He is like the fish of the deep, who knows how to master the water but does not yet know the light of the sun. The human faith that sustains him in the daily struggles of life will open up to the divine faith that will show him the splendour of the stars. The light of Reason, like sunlight, will germinate and grow the power of faith in his heart. No one is lost, no one is condemned forever. The Justice of God is fulfilled in our innermost being, because God is in us, present in us in the mercy of his laws.
