Frequently asked questions

Does the Spiritism reveal something new?
Yes, spiritism reveals new and deeper insights about God, the universe, mankind, spirits and the laws that govern life. It also reveals who we are, where we come from, where we are going, the purpose of our existence and the reason for pain and suffering.
Does the Spiritism have among its principles the belief in God?
Yes. Spiritism explains that God is the supreme intelligence, the first cause of all things. He is eternal, immutable, immaterial, omnipotent, unique, sovereignly just and good. The universe is God's creation. It embraces all rational and irrational, animate and inanimate, material and immaterial beings. All the laws of Nature are divine laws, since God is their author. They embrace both physical and moral laws.
What does the Spiritism say about Jesus?
Jesus is the guide and model for all mankind. And the Doctrine which He taught and exemplified is the purest expression of the Law of God. The morality of Christ, contained in the Gospel, is the road map for the safe evolution of all men, and its practice is the solution to all human problems and the goal to be achieved by Humanity.
Does Spiritism have among its principles, the existence of life in other worlds?
Yes, the Spiritism makes it clear that there are other worlds in the Universe inhabited by beings of different stages of evolution: equal, more evolved and less evolved than men.
What are spirits?
The spirits are the intelligent beings of creation. They constitute the spirit world, which pre-exists and outlives everything. Spirits are created simple and ignorant. They evolve, intellectually and morally, passing from a lower to a higher order, to perfection, when they enjoy unalterable happiness. Spirits maintain their individuality, before, during and after each incarnation.
Where do discarnate spirits live and what do they do?
In addition to the corporeal world, the abode of the incarnated spirits, who are human beings, there is a spiritual world, the abode of the non-incarnated spirits. They study, work and carry on various activities in the spiritual world.
Do the spirits know everything?
The spirits are the souls of men who have lost their physical bodies. Similar to what we observe in incarnated humanity, the knowledge they have corresponds to their degree of moral and intellectual advancement. Death is a passage to the spiritual life and does not give moral values or information that they do not have.
Are all spirits the same?
No. The spirits belong to different orders according to the degree of perfection they have attained: Pure Spirits, who have attained the highest perfection, of good humour, whose will to good is predominant; Imperfect Spirits, characterised by ignorance, evil desire and lower passions.
Is it only through Spiritism that one can have contact with spirits?
No. The relations of the spirits with men are constant, and have always existed. Good spirits induce us to good, sustain us in the trials of life, and help us to bear them with courage and resignation. Imperfect spirits lead us astray.
What is the Reincarnation?
The spirits reincarnate as many times as necessary for their betterment. The purpose of reincarnation is evolution.
What is the mediumship?
The mediumship, which enables spirits to communicate with men, is a faculty that many people bring with them at birth, independently of the religion or beliefs they may adopt. But beware: Spiritist mediumistic practice is only that which is exercised on the basis of the principles of Spiritist Doctrine and within Christian morality. Therefore, under no circumstances may the medium charge money, demand or accept any form of reward (gifts, goodies, etc.) for mediumistic activities.
What is the Law of Cause and Effect?
It is a law created by God and it says that man has free will to act, but he will also have the answer to the consequences of his actions. What we do becomes bad and good for us in the same life or later in future lives. In future lives they will bring men sorrows and joys compatible with the respect or not of God's law.
What is the prayer, according to Spiritism?
The prayer is an act of worship to God. It is the law of nature and is the result of an innate feeling in man, innate as the idea of the existence of the Creator. Prayer makes man better. He who prays with fervour and confidence is stronger against the temptations of evil, and God sends the good spirits to help him. It is that help which is never denied, when it is sincerely asked for.
Are there any fees in Spiritist Institutions?
No. All Spiritist practice is free, according to the orientation of the moral principle of the Gospel: "Give freely what you have received freely".
Is the Spiritism proselytising and are there campaigns for people to become Spiritists?
No. The Spiritism never imposes its principles. It invites those interested in knowledge to submit its teachings to the sieve of reason before accepting them.
How does the Spiritism relate to other religions?
The Spiritism respects all religions and doctrines, values all efforts to do good, and works for peace and friendship among all nations and all peoples, without distinction of race, colour, nationality, creed, cultural or social background. It recognises that "the good is that which truly fulfils the law of justice, love and charity in its purest form".
