It can be said that cancer is a spiritual disease, however, there are other factors of material origin that influence the appearance of the disease. Nowadays, it is not uncommon to notice the development of negative habits for the physical body that cause an organic predisposition to cancer, such as smoking, alcohol, stress, excesses of all kinds, poor diet, among others.

However, cancer is usually a karmic disease, for we are part of the Law of Cause and Effect and, depending on our negative or positive attitudes, we can receive health or disease as a consequence of its effects. Remember that the physical body reflects the spiritual body which, in turn, will be reflected in our mental body.

Joanna de Ângelis, in the book The Conscious Self, teaches that pathologies are directly related to the mental state of the Spirit, the human being being being being constituted by the energy that the Spirit sends to the material body and the nervous system. Thus, any imbalance opens the way for the appearance of diseases and disorders, triggering pathological problems, the so-called ailments.

The author lists several factors that cause an imbalance in this energy flow, such as love, anguish, resentment and hatred. The love mentioned is not the sublime, but the gross and possessive love, in which the participants are driven by the force of desire, and in this case it is the great demolisher of cellular structures. The more one desires and enjoys, the more one demands and suffers, and in failing to achieve one's desires, one's mind is decomposed and contaminated with the poisonous rays of emotional disorder, as well as the immune defences and the vibration of mental harmony, making the creature sick.

The benefactor concludes by affirming that the Gospel is a lesson of infinite optimism and Spiritism is the doctrine that actualises it, inviting the creature to a continuous moral transformation in order to reach inner edification.
