Colombia Montoya de Martinez

Colombia Montoya de Martinez was born in Siquirres, Costa Rica, on 23 July 1925 and disincarnated in Bogotá, Colombia, on 25 May 2012.
Pioneer, leader and tireless worker of the Colombian spiritism movement. Doña Colombia, who for more than 50 years developed in the country a commendable and tenacious activity in favour of the organisation, growth and development of Spiritism in Colombia, also contributing to its dissemination through various media, work that she carried out from her Spiritist institution, the ‘Círculo de Fuerzas Amigas’, as well as from the Spiritist Council of Colombian Relations CERCOL and in recent years, from the Spiritist Federation of Cundinamarca.
As a spiritist, she stood out as a lecturer and inspirational speaker, psychic and psychophonic medium, writer and permanent columnist, whose orienting and enriching writings were published in innumerable national and international spiritism media. For many years, in her capacity as general secretary of the Colombian Spiritist Relations Council, she became the coordinator of the national spiritism movement and international relations, establishing correspondence and fraternal ties with spiritist leaders and organisations in Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Spain, Mexico, USA, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, among others, making the first contacts for the visit to our country of outstanding speakers, writers and mediums of international stature, such as Divaldo Pereira Franco, Juan Durante, Pedro A. Barboza de la Torre, Jon Aizpúrua, Hermas Culzoni, Humberto Mariotti, Natalio Ceccarini, Benjamín Rodríguez and many others who contributed to the orientation of the then growing Colombian spiritism movement.
She was the author of the book "History of Spiritism in Colombia" in which she recorded the dates, circumstances, events and the most outstanding and determining actors in that initial process of orientation and growth of spiritism in Colombia, pointing out the first local, regional and national spiritism events, held under the auspices and coordination of CERCOL, with the valuable presence of the foreign spiritism workers mentioned, among many others, as well as the participation of national spiritist leaders and workers who over the years were emerging and forming in the different cities and regions of the country. Looking to the future, Doña Colombia was especially committed to the promotion of spiritist youth, stimulating many young people to train as workers, leaders and speakers in different regions of Colombia. Equally important were her links and meetings with Doña Ana Fuentes de Cardona, the well-remembered spiritist leader and worker of Cartagena, from whose relationship emerged important guidelines and achievements in favour of Spiritism on the Atlantic Coast and in the country.
In her numerous spiritist activities she always had the firm and unconditional support of her husband, retired Major José Joaquín Martínez, a member of CERCOL and who for several years was the delegate for Colombia of the Confederación Espírita Panamericana CEPA, an entity with which there were ties of affiliation, and whose leaders visited our country on countless occasions.
What this spiritist worker represented for the Colombian spiritism movement could not be better indicated in her own name: "Colombia", which surely, more than a coincidence, would obey a foresight of the spiritual world, with respect to the work programmed and which she actually carried out in Colombia.
There would be innumerable pages to be written to record all the extensive spiritist work of Doña Colombia throughout her career, a work of compilation and writing that is still pending; let us pray for her good return and placement in the Spiritual Homeland, sending her our best vibrations of love and peace, and our heartfelt thanks for her friendship and her commendable work in the service of Spiritism in Colombia.
