Djalma Montenegro de Farias

He was president of the Spiritist Institute João Evangelista and of the Spiritist Federation of Pernambuco, founding the State Commission of Spiritism, CEE, on 23 October 1947, of which he was the first president.
He was also one of the founders of the House of Spiritists of Pernambuco. He adhered to the famous ‘Golden Pact’ of 05/10/1949. A few days later, in a visit to the Spiritist League of Brazil, later Spiritist League of the State of Guanabara and today Spiritist Federation of Rio de Janeiro, he also gave a vibrant lecture, in the middle of which he lost his voice - it was the ghost of illness that warned him of his imprudence, but, in an extraordinary effort, he managed to give strength to the matter that could no longer follow the rhythm of the eloquence of his words. Nevertheless, he finished his speech, which was to be the last pronounced by this righteous apostle of Spiritism, amidst the applause of the audience.
A member of the ‘Liga Estadual Prol Estado Leigo’, he took part in the various movements for the maintenance of Free Thought, under the action of the National Coalition. In 1943, he published a precious booklet entitled ‘Essay on Reincarnation’, developing this complex and important subject with the power of a Master's clairvoyance.
In recognition of his merits as a citizen and Spiritist, there are two streets in Pernambuco (in the capital and in the city of Moreno) named after him, and two Spiritist Centres have him as their patron and spiritual guide, making express reference to him in their names (Grupo Espírita Djalma Farias, in Recife, and Centro Espírita Nove de Outubro, in Moreno).
Djalma Farias was a landmark of Spiritism in Pernambuco and his name and work transcend the limits of his state. On May 6, 1950, in Recife, the great worker of the Jesus Sect, devoted promoter of Spiritism - Professor Djalma Montenegro de Farias - died at the age of 49.
