History of Spiritism in Paraguay

The Spiritism in Paraguay has its antecedents around 1900, according to the documentation we possess, with the presence of Dr. Ovidio Rebaudi in the region of the Rio de la Plata. He frequented the meetings of the spiritism societies Constancia, Fraternidad and the Argentinean Spiritism Confederation, all of them in Buenos Aires. However, he still declared himself to be a follower of Modern Spiritualism. Back in Paraguay, he frequented the Society of Magnetological Studies and later became the editor of the Magnetological Review.

Later, on the same stage in Buenos Aires, the Basilio Scientific Spiritism School was founded in 1917, with spiritual communication as the basis of its teachings. There they also studied the works of Allan Kardec among others. This school founded its branch in Paraguay in 1952, where Mr. Itsmio Veneroso and other friends attended. When they had the opportunity to know The Book of the Spirits and The Gospel according to Spiritism, they understood that the teachings received in that school did not agree with the proposals of Allan Kardec. They decided then, to withdraw to found the Paraguayan Spiritist Centre on September 7th, 1962. From there, other spiritism centres were founded.

And in 1992, the spiritual influence of Brazil, Homeland of the Gospel, Heart of the World, began to be felt when Joao Ravelo and his family settled in Paraguay, initiating the Systematised Study of the Spiritist Doctrine based on the manual of the FEB (Brazilian Spiritist Federation), in the Paraguayan Centre of Spiritist Philosophy. It is worth mentioning the tireless work of Ramón Insfrán and Gloria Ávalos to install the systematised study in the different centres.
Divaldo Franco came to Paraguay in 1993, and in 1996 for the third time, the first time in 1968. Raúl Teixeira also came to Paraguay in 1994. In 2004 he started, with Carlos Campetti, the Systematised Study of Mediumnity and the formation of other mediumistic work groups. In 2006, the general meeting of the CEI (International Spiritist Council) was held in Paraguay. The department of assistance and social promotion is carried out in all centres. There is also active participation of children and young people.
Today, we can say that the Spiritism in Paraguay is advancing with firm steps, thanks to the self-sacrificing work of comrades conscious of the moment we live in and, above all, to the love of Jesus for all of us.
