Le baron Johann Ludwig von Guldenstubb\u00e9, qui quitta cette vie le 27 mai 1873, \u00e0 son domicile de Paris, 29 rue de Tr\u00e9vise, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 53 ans, fut surtout connu pour ses recherches et ses exp\u00e9riences en pneumatographie. D\u2019origine su\u00e9doise, il appartenait \u00e0 une ancienne famille scandinave de renom historique ; deux de ses anc\u00eatres du m\u00eame nom furent br\u00fbl\u00e9s vifs en 1309, en compagnie de Jaques de Molav, sur ordre du pape Cl\u00e9ment IV. Le baron menait une vie retir\u00e9e, en compagnie de sa vertueuse s\u0153ur. Sa m\u00e9moire est affectueusement honor\u00e9e pour sa conduite noble, courtoise et bienveillante, ainsi que pour ses nombreux actes de charit\u00e9 discr\u00e8te. Il se consacra principalement aux exp\u00e9riences d\u2019\u00e9criture directe en France, o\u00f9 il obtint le 13 ao\u00fbt 1856 le premier succ\u00e8s dans ce mode de communication spirite. Il \u00e9crivit l\u2019ouvrage intitul\u00e9 \u00ab La R\u00e9alit\u00e9 des Spirites et de leurs Manifestations \u00bb, ainsi que \u00ab Pens\u00e9es d\u2019outre-tombe \u00bb (1858). En quelques ann\u00e9es de travaux exp\u00e9rimentaux, le baron obtint un nombre consid\u00e9rable d\u2019\u00e9critures directes, dont certaines furent obtenues sans le secours de crayon, de papier ou d\u2019ardoise. Les esprits communicants eux-m\u00eames apportaient le mat\u00e9riel n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 l\u2019obtention des messages. \u00ab Ces ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes \u00bb, dit-il, \u00ab reposent d\u00e9sormais sur une base solide de faits, permettant que nous consid\u00e9rions dor\u00e9navant l\u2019immortalit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00e2me comme un fait scientifique, et le Spiritisme comme un pont jet\u00e9 entre ce monde et l\u2019Invisible. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-41296d4a759c76bdea7ffc12860abcfb\"><strong>\u00c9criture directe<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-23aaa33cd351e74b13924c5b6d0647db\">Le von Guldenstubb\u00e9 fut le premier \u00e0 obtenir en France l\u2019\u00e9criture directe. Voici comment il relate le fait (\u00ab La R\u00e9alit\u00e9 des Esprits \u00bb, pp. 66 et 67) : \u00ab Un beau jour (1er ao\u00fbt 1856), il lui vint \u00e0 l\u2019esprit d\u2019exp\u00e9rimenter si les Esprits pouvaient \u00e9crire directement, sans le secours d\u2019un m\u00e9dium. Connaissant l\u2019\u00e9criture directe myst\u00e9rieuse du D\u00e9calogue selon Mo\u00efse, l\u2019\u00e9criture \u00e9galement directe et myst\u00e9rieuse dans la salle du festin du roi Balthazar selon Daniel, et ayant entendu parler des myst\u00e8res modernes de Straford, en Am\u00e9rique, o\u00f9 l\u2019on avait trouv\u00e9 certains caract\u00e8res illisibles et \u00e9tranges trac\u00e9s sur un morceau de papier et qui ne semblaient pas provenir de m\u00e9diums, l\u2019auteur voulut s\u2019assurer de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 d\u2019un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne dont la port\u00e9e serait immense, s\u2019il \u00e9tait vrai. \u00ab Il pla\u00e7a donc une feuille de papier blanc et un crayon taill\u00e9 dans une petite bo\u00eete ferm\u00e9e \u00e0 cl\u00e9, gardant toujours cette cl\u00e9 sur lui et ne r\u00e9v\u00e9lant son exp\u00e9rience \u00e0 personne. Pendant douze jours, il attendit en vain, sans observer la moindre trace de crayon sur le papier ; mais le 13 ao\u00fbt 1856, son \u00e9tonnement fut grand lorsqu\u2019il remarqua certains caract\u00e8res myst\u00e9rieux sur le papier ; d\u00e8s que cela se produisit, il r\u00e9p\u00e9ta l\u2019exp\u00e9rience dix fois le m\u00eame jour, \u00e0 jamais m\u00e9morable, en pla\u00e7ant, toutes les demi-heures, une nouvelle feuille de papier blanc dans la bo\u00eete. L\u2019exp\u00e9rience fut couronn\u00e9e d\u2019un succ\u00e8s complet. \u00ab Le lendemain, 14 ao\u00fbt, il effectua de nouveau une vingtaine d\u2019exp\u00e9riences, laissant la bo\u00eete ouverte et ne la quittant pas des yeux ; il vit alors que des caract\u00e8res et des mots en langue estonienne se formaient ou s\u2019imprimaient sur le papier, sans que le crayon bouge. D\u00e8s lors, constatant l\u2019inutilit\u00e9 du crayon, il cessa de le poser sur le papier ; et, en pla\u00e7ant simplement une feuille de papier dans un tiroir de sa maison, il obtint \u00e9galement des communications. \u00bb (\u00c0 la fin de l\u2019ouvrage du baron se trouvent des fac-simil\u00e9s de ces \u00e9critures.) Le baron von Guldenstubb\u00e9 r\u00e9p\u00e9ta l\u2019exp\u00e9rience en pr\u00e9sence du comte d\u2019Ourches, et celui-ci obtint une communication de sa m\u00e8re, dont la signature et l\u2019\u00e9criture furent reconnues comme authentiques apr\u00e8s comparaison avec les autographes que poss\u00e9dait le comte.
