Le baron Carl Du Prel \u00e9tait un philosophe exceptionnel, l'un des plus grands penseurs modernes et l'un des chercheurs les plus subtils dans le domaine de l'esprit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-deba8671a4ee484f3b487f7c67fba184 wp-block-paragraph\">Officier de l'arm\u00e9e et docteur en philosophie de l'universit\u00e9 de T\u00fcbingen, il participa avec Lombroso, Schiaparelli, Chiaia, Brofferio, Ermacora, Richet et Aksakof aux c\u00e9l\u00e8bres exp\u00e9riences de science m\u00e9diumnique men\u00e9es \u00e0 Milan en 1892. Il s'engagea dans l'arm\u00e9e pour satisfaire les souhaits de son p\u00e8re. Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 promu lieutenant, il participa \u00e0 plusieurs batailles en Bavi\u00e8re. Il commanda le camp de concentration de Nemburg. Plus tard, en 1872, il abandonna sa carri\u00e8re militaire avec le grade de capitaine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-90cd12f669304709c9f9b8cb43cdb2eb wp-block-paragraph\">Il passa le reste de sa vie \u00e0 Munich et se consacra d'abord \u00e0 l'\u00e9tude de la philosophie et de l'esth\u00e9tique, s'int\u00e9ressant particuli\u00e8rement \u00e0 l'\u00e9tude des ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes spirites. Influenc\u00e9 par la philosophie de Kant, il tendit, sous la direction de Hartmann, \u00e0 rapprocher Schopenhauer et le darwinisme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-c912072f0d96909192b671215f4c19c3 wp-block-paragraph\">La premi\u00e8re \u00e9dition allemande de l'ouvrage d'Alexandre Aksakof \u00ab Animisme et spiritisme \u00bb, dans lequel il r\u00e9fute les travaux du Dr Hartmann, fut publi\u00e9e sous le titre \u00ab L'hypoth\u00e8se des esprits et de leurs fant\u00f4mes \u00bb. Apparemment, cette controverse conduisit Du Prel \u00e0 se convertir au spiritisme, car d\u00e8s qu'Aksakof fut contraint, pour des raisons de sant\u00e9, de mettre fin \u00e0 la controverse, Du Prel prit le relais pour la poursuivre contre son ancien professeur. L'\u0153uvre bibliographique de Carl Du Prel est consid\u00e9rable (elle comprend plus de deux douzaines d'ouvrages). Parmi ceux-ci, il convient de mentionner en particulier \u00ab Le spiritisme \u00bb, \u00ab Clart\u00e9 et action \u00e0 distance \u00bb, \u00ab La d\u00e9couverte de l'\u00e2me par les sciences occultes \u00bb, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-8f97187b799c8811b007b00721bc038f wp-block-paragraph\">Dans l'un de ses ouvrages, il \u00e9crivait : \u00ab Tant que l'homme reste dans le doute quant \u00e0 savoir s'il est un \u00eatre physique et mortel ou un \u00eatre m\u00e9taphysique et immortel, il n'a pas le droit de se vanter de sa conscience personnelle ou de se limiter \u00e0 consid\u00e9rer la mort comme un saut dans l'obscurit\u00e9.
