In his youth, he graduated as a civil engineer from the University of Buenos Aires. He went on to become a distinguished physics teacher at various schools in the Argentine capital and, at the age of 30, published his first book, Problemas de F\u00edsica (Problems of Physics). His interest in paranormal phenomena and Spiritism began in 1921, when he personally investigated the case of a well-known psychic who conducted diagnostic and healing mediumship sessions. Following this, he became a member of the Asociaci\u00f3n Espiritista Constancia, where he carefully observed the mediumistic sessions held by the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-c2d295a30683701b1b7665636fb74b71 wp-block-paragraph\">In 1933, he carried out research with his wife, Mar\u00eda Amanda Ravagnan, who at that time began to demonstrate mediumistic abilities. Together with other collaborators, he founded the C\u00edrculo Espiritualista Atman in the same year. Initially, Fern\u00e1ndez\u2019s research followed the metapsychical paradigm, characterised by a qualitative methodology. Later, through correspondence with J. B. Rhine, he adopted the parapsychological paradigm, making use of quantitative methods. Fern\u00e1ndez was chiefly responsible for introducing the mathematical methodology for investigating ESP (extrasensory perception) phenomena throughout Latin America, both through his own articles and by translating Rhine\u2019s papers into Spanish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-da5a325a1bd0484b1e1314f65e1b740b wp-block-paragraph\">As a parapsychologist, Fern\u00e1ndez served as President of the Sociedad Argentina de Parapsicolog\u00eda (1948\u20131953), the Instituto Argentino de Parapsicolog\u00eda (1953\u20131955), and the Colegio Argentino de Estudios Ps\u00edquicos (1957\u20131967). Jos\u00e9 Salvador Fern\u00e1ndez also played a prominent role in the Latin American Spiritist movement. In addition to being an active member of his Spiritist society, he was a lecturer, writer, and editorial assistant for the Spiritist journal Constancia. At the First Pan-American Spiritist Congress in 1946, he attended as a representative of the Confederaci\u00f3n Esp\u00edrita Argentina and the Sociedad Constancia, and was elected the first President of the newly established Confederaci\u00f3n Esp\u00edrita Panamericana. He also maintained close ties with Brazilian Spiritists, serving as an Honorary Professor at the Instituto de Cultura Esp\u00edrita do Brasil (ICEB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-cb3ab31cd00c79e579c4a51aa44b32c0 wp-block-paragraph\">He was a friend, colleague, and research associate of Luiz di Crist\u00f3foro Postiglioni (1909\u20131979), with whom he co-authored the book Fundamentos Cient\u00edficos-Filos\u00f3ficos de la Reencarnaci\u00f3n (Scientific and Philosophical Foundations of Reincarnation). Jos\u00e9 Fern\u00e1ndez died on 16 May 1967 following a stroke. His greatest contribution to Spiritism extended beyond developing a Spiritist theory of psychic phenomena; it lay in demonstrating the importance of scientific experimentation in the development of Spiritist doctrine through the application of new methods developed by parapsychology to the investigation of mediumistic phenomena.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-container uagb-block-335f6182 alignfull uagb-is-root-container\"><div class=\"uagb-container-inner-blocks-wrap\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-container uagb-block-c4a7f4f5 alignfull uagb-is-root-container\"><div class=\"uagb-container-inner-blocks-wrap\"><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jos\u00e9 Salvador Fern\u00e1ndez Jos\u00e9 Salvador Fern\u00e1ndez&nbsp; fue un importante pensador esp\u00edrita e investigador de Parapsicolog\u00eda en Argentina, nacido en Buenos Aires, el d\u00eda 17 de febrero de 1893.
